No-Fun Diet Protein Oatmeal (It's really Yummy!)

If you're visiting my blog for the first time, be sure to enter my custom bracelet giveaway!

O.K., if you haven't heard by now, I have been re-starting my fitness journey.  You can read about that on this post.  This journey comes complete with workout clothes that are too tight, consistent bow-legged walking and my ever popular, No-Fun Diet. (I'm thinking of copywriting...)

I've done this diet once before, and this recipe for oatmeal became one of my favorite easy staples.  It is a complete blend of protein, complex carbs, and fats.  It's great for energy before a workout, and it re-fuels post-exercise.  It also tastes good, when it comes out, it smells and tastes (kinda) like a cinnamon bun.  I don't like the texture of goopy cooked oatmeal, and this keeps it raw.

Ingredients

1/4 Granny Smith Apple, cubed
1 Egg White
Vanilla Whey Protein
1 cup Oatmeal (not instant)
1 tbsp Slivered Almonds (healthy fats)
Cinnamon and Splenda to taste

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a microwave safe bowl.  I put 1 splenda in and enough cinnamon to lightly dust the top.

Aubrie LOVES helping!

2. Stir the ingredients with a spoon until the egg white moistens everything.

3.  Microwave on high for 30 seconds.

I eat this on my carb days and if it's in the morning, I add the apple for energy.  Otherwise I leave it out because fruit has sugar in it. Sugar = fat, and until my weight gets back down, all fruit is nixed and then will gradually be put back in.

Let me know if you try it, and tell me how you like it!

  9. I'll have to check out your other foods on this no-fun diet b/c tomorrow I'm planning on starting the no-eating diet. This extra weight has GOT to GO!! I love oatmeal, and I eat oats in my yogurt all the time, so I would probably like this. I also like the cooked, gloppy variety :)

  10. @ Mo 'Betta, my list is just a healthy combination of proteins, complex carbs and fats, no dairy (except for eggs in the a.m.), no sugar (splenda ok), no fruit. Unlimited vegetables. It's very comparable to the Atkins (when done right.) So you would have to nix the yogurt until you reached a weight you like. BUT there are a number of different flavored whey proteins out there if you were craving that fruity taste. I once got a strawberry banana that was pretty good!

Also, the amount I eat is for my particular weight range. It's a lot of food to fuel a vigorous exercise regiment (daily bootcamps, weight lifting and cardio intervals.) BUT people who are not on a strict exercise program have succeeded with this diet on small portion sizes. You still want to eat 4-5 times daily, just smaller portions.

  11. I stopped by to return your follow and this post caught my eye. I love oatmeal (and now roll my own oats so they are super fresh), but can't dream of giving up all fruit.

  13. Sounds like a nice diet actually. Not that I really diet, hehe. But this one seem like a good choice if I were to try one day.

Thanks for following my blog and comment. I'm already a follower here. :-)

  14. @ Laura, yes a lot of fitness trainers out there don't believe in giving up fruit as well. This is just catered to my body type and how my body reacts to food. I lose the weight and then add it back in.
@ Kim, these are rolled oats from bulk! (I'm not really sure what the difference is...gotta look that one up!)
@ Alexandra, It's so hard to keep track of who follows! Thanks for stopping by again!
